Fund-Raising Event Scheduled in Wichita for K-State Boathouse
Aug. 5, 2002 MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's rowing team will hold Cats on the Arkansas at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita, Kan., on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event will be a fund-raiser for the K-State rowing boathouse, which will provide a team house that will include showers, locker rooms, restrooms, team meeting space, coaches' offices and a training room for use by all the K-State rowing programs. Fans will be able to meet Wildcat rowing team members, including head coach Jenny Hale. There will be rowing demonstrations on the Arkansas River, and adult fans will be invited to venture into the water and try their hand at rowing. Families are welcome at the event, food will be served, including some kid-friendly items, and dress is listed as "casual purple." Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children, with kids under 3 admitted free. Those not able to attend the event may still make a tax-deductible contribution. Sponsorships of the event are also available at various levels ranging from $250 to $10,000. To date, the campaign has raised more than $650,000 and is more than halfway to its goal of $1.1 million. The women's rowing program is one of the newest varsity programs at Kansas State, having just completed its sixth season at the varsity level. In 2002, the Wildcats made their first-ever appearance in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll and placed second as a team at the Big 12 Conference Invitational.
