Women's Rowing Wins Two Races at 2003 Henley Women's Regatta
July 2, 2003 HENLEY, England-Competing for the first time internationally in school history, the Kansas State varsity and novice women's rowing teams won two races at the 2003 Henley Women's Regatta in Henley, England. During the trip, the Wildcats participated in the head-to-head College Eight and Club Eight events at the regatta, held June 20-22. Both teams recorded first round victories before being eliminated from competition. To open the College Eight competition, Kansas State I escaped with a narrow victory over Calus (England) in a time of 5:20 on the 1,500 meter course. In their second race, however, the Wildcats fell to U.C.D. (Ireland) by one length. U.C.D. finished the course in a time of 5:04. In the Club Eight event, Kansas State II opened with a convincing four-and-a-half length victory over City of Bristol 'B' (England) . The Wildcats completed the race in a time of 5:31. Like their varsity counterparts, however, the team was eliminated in the second race when they fell by four lengths to Durham University (England) in a time of 5:10. Kansas State will open the 2003 season when they participate in the Head of Des Moines on September 27, in Des Moines, Iowa. |
