Wildcat Rowers Earn Postseason Honors
June 12, 2002 MANHATTAN, Kan. - Three Kansas State rowers earned postseason honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association, the group announced recently. Junior rower Katy Bockelman of Prairie Village, Kan., was selected to the All-Central Region first team, while senior rower Josie McClellan of Topeka, Kan., was a second-team pick. Bockelman was in the varsity eight throughout the year, moving from the bow seat to the sixth position just prior to the NCAA Central Sprints. McClellan was in the seventh seat in all but one race for the K-State eight in the spring season. After being nominated by their coaches, a maximum of 12 rowers and one coxswain may be named to the first and second team from each region. All-region teams are selected by CRCA head coaches based on the nominee's team record, strength of schedule, nomination rank, coach's comments and 2,000-meter ergometer score. In addition, Wildcat junior Alyssa Adams was one of 93 Division I rowers who earned a National Scholar-Athlete Award. Adams, a native of Newark, Del., carried a 3.55 grade-point average in architectural engineering. She was also a member of the Wildcats' varsity eight, finishing the season in the fifth seat. --ksu-- |
