Hauver Earns All-Region Second Team Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State’s Megan Hauver was recently honored on the 2006 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Region Second Team.

The award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers from each of the five NCAA Division I regions, organized into first and second team selections. Hauver is only the second K-State women’s rower in school history to be named all-region. Former Wildcat Grace Riekenberg garnered second team honors in 2005.

"Megan's tough and aggressive attitude has led her to be a successful rower,” Kansas State head coach Patrick Sweeney said. “She embodies the race mentality we want all of our student-athletes to have. She gave the program a great four years and should be proud of her accomplishments.”

This past season, Hauver earned her third varsity letter as a member of the First Varsity Eight which raced to a third-place finish in the C Final at the NCAA Central Region Championships on May 13-14 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The 1V8+ raced neck-and-neck with Indiana the length of the 2,000-meter course and came up a mere 0.42 seconds behind at the finish.

As a team, the Wildcats earned 144 points, leaving them tied for seventh with Iowa in the Central Region. Kansas State was the highest-placing Big 12 Conference school, ahead of Texas (136 points) and in-state rival Kansas (98 points). This was K-State's best finish ever in the 10-year history of the program at the NCAA regional qualifying event.

Hauver was one of 20 student-athletes honored out of the Central Region which included rowers from nationally-ranked crews from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana.
