K-State Rowing Gears Up For Southern IRA's
MANHATTAN, Kan. Regional competition is up next for the Kansas State women’s rowing team as the Wildcats send four crews to compete at the 38th annual Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta on April 15-17 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Oak Ridge Rowing Venue at Melton Hill Lake serves as the home course for the Southern IRA’s. K-State will be joined in this weekend’s regatta by varsity and novice squads from George Mason, Purdue, Central Florida, Dayton, Louisville, North Carolina, Tennessee, SMU, Tulsa, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville, Michigan State Club, Murray State, Auburn, Emory, Georgia State, North Carolina State, Northwestern State, Stetson, Florida, Tampa and Vanderbilt. The 2,000-meter course is known as one of the best rowing venues in the U.S. Melton Hill Lake has served as the site for numerous major championships including the U.S. Nationals, Women’s Nationals, Master’s Nationals and the Pan American Trials. Last season, the Wildcats took home trophies in the Women’s Varsity Eight and Women’s Novice Four races, while also placing second in the Women’s JV Eight. K-State is entered in this year’s Women’s Varsity Eight, Women’s JV Eight, Women’s Novice Eight and Women’s Novice Four events. Saturday's heats and semifinals begin at 7:30 a.m., while Sunday's finals will commence at 7:30 a.m. Complete race results can be accessed at: www.row2k.com or www.k-statesports.com.
