MANHATTAN, Kan. An annual rivalry is revisited as the Kansas State women’s rowing team takes on in-state rival Kansas for the right to hold ownership to the coveted Kansas Cup on Saturday, April 8, in Lawrence.

The Wildcats will compete in head-to-head competition with the Jayhawks on the Kansas River, with the annual dual between the two schools beginning at 10:30 a.m. Four boats including the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and First Novice Eight, will race against top boats from KU. A total of 21 combined points will be up for grabs by either team.

"I believe we will see some close races this weekend as we seem very evenly matched with KU," Kansas State head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "We are trying some different combinations from those that raced in San Diego, to see if we can make the team faster and deeper, and to improve our standing at NCAA Regionals at the end of the season."

Last season, the Wildcats hoisted the Kansas Cup trophy for the first time since 1998 with a close 9-8 victory over the Jayhawks in Manhattan. KU previously won the last six consecutive Kansas Cup meetings since the inaugural dual in 1998. K-State will look for its first back-to-back wins in the series.

Directions to the Kansas River: From the Kansas Turnpike (I-70). Take West Lawrence Exit #202. Go thru first stop light, turn left at 4th Street. Take 4th Street to third stop sign and then turn left on Indiana Street. Follow Indiana Street two blocks and then turn right into Burcham Park at 2nd and Indiana. Parking will be available outside of the park for fans.
