MANHATTAN, Kan. The KansasState rowing team closed the San Diego Crew Classic with a strong finish in the finals on Sunday. The Wildcats finished third in the Women’s Collegiate Varsity SeaWorld Cal Cup.
K-State was in the middle of the pack for the first 1,000 meters and gained seats back through the third quarter. The Wildcats drove for home, pulling neck and neck with SacramentoState and challenging the leader St. Joseph's. Despite the Wildcats' strong finish, the top two places were snatched from their grasp. K-State missed first by only 2.08 seconds and was edged out of second by .28 of a second.
The three top finishing teams separated themselves from the rest of the pack with San Diego finishing more than four seconds behind K-State for fourth place. The Wildcats did best a St. Mary’s crew that is receiving votes in the Top 25.
The Wildcats return to the Great Plains for their next competition taking on rival Kansas in the Kansas Cup. The Jayhawks will host K-State in Wyandotte on Saturday.
