Rowing Places Fourth In San Diego Crew Classic Heats

SAN DIEGO Kansas State’s First and Second Varsity Eights placed fourth at the 31st Annual San Diego Crew Classic Regatta held Saturday afternoon at Mission Bay.

With the ninth best time of the day, the First Varsity Eight boat turned in a fourth-place time of 7:01.60 in Heat B of the Women’s Cal Cup race. Meanwhile, the Second Varsity Eight boat placed fourth in its respective heat with a time of 7:14.86 in the Women’s JV event. Both squads competed among a 20-team field comprised of some of the top collegiate crews in the nation, which included No. 2 Washington and No. 12 Oregon State.

The top two crews from Saturday’s heats advanced to Sunday’s grand final, while the third and fourth place finishers from each heat moved on to the petite final for places 7-12. Races continue tomorrow beginning at 7 a.m. (PT).

NOT A SHOCKER...Both the Kansas State First and Second Novice Eights beat Wichita State in varsity and novice competition at the Sunflower State Races held Saturday at Tuttle Creek Lake in Manhattan. The race was used as a tune-up for the Wildcats, who will compete next Saturday, April 10, in the Kansas Cup in Lawrence, Kan.
