MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s rowing team will head west to California to compete in the 34th annual San Diego Crew Classic on March 31-April 1 in San Diego, Calif.
The event is held on Crown Point Shores Park at Mission Bay in San Diego. Some of the top rowing teams from around the country compete in the annual event including Arizona State, Cal, Clemson, Miami, Oregon State, St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s, SUNY Buffalo, Temple, Villanova, UC Davis, USD, USC, Washington State and West Virginia.
The Crew Classic is one of the largest multi-laned regattas in the country. Top finishers from Saturday’s preliminary heats move on to compete in Sunday’s finals. The top two finishers in each heat compete in a grand final, while the third-and fourth-place finishers move on to the petite final.
After finishing fourth in 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, the First Varsity Eight advanced to the grand final and placed second last season to mark K-State’s best finish ever at the Classic. The First Novice Eight also advanced to the grand final and finished fifth overall.
The Wildcats’ 1N8+ is undefeated this season after winning all four races at the Longhorn Invitational in the spring season opener two weeks ago. K-State also won at the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta, Head of the Iowa and Sunflower Showdown in the fall.
