Rowing completes first two days at Longhorn Invitational


 

 
 


Austin, Texas - The Kansas State rowing team wrapped up the first two days of racing at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, on Saturday with the Wildcats taking four wins in the first two days of racing against the likes of No. 14 Texas, No. 18 Duke, No. 20 Iowa, SMU and Tulsa.

The Wildcats opened racing Friday with dual races against Texas and Tulsa. In their second event of the day, Texas’ second novice eight crew notched a win with a time of 7:55.6. UT’s first varsity eight boat was back on the water in the next race and surged ahead of the Wildcats by nearly three seconds at the finish line. The second varsity eights race was next on the docket and UT made it a clean sweep of the Wildcats. Texas finished in 7:38, while K-State clocked a 7:49.

The lone win on Friday was from the Wildcats’ first novice eight crew ran away from Tulsa finishing in a time of 7:31.6 to Tulsa’s 8:03.2.

On Saturday, the Wildcats totaled four races in the morning session, highlighted by a win from the first novice eights/3V8 crew, who clocked in a time of 7:26.3. Duke finished the race in a time of 7:50.7. Both the first and second varsity eight sqauds dropped races to Duke and the second novice eight team lost a race to Texas on Saturday morning.

In the afternoon, the Wildcat novice crews notched wins over the Iowa Hawkeyes as the first novice eight crew clocked in at 7:18.9 and the second novice eight turned in a time of 7:35.3. Both varsity eight squads dropped races to the Hawkeyes with the first varsity eight finishing with a time of 7:00.9 and the second varsity eight squad clocking in at 7:29.9
