Wildcats Claim Three Victories In Season Opener

AUSTIN, Texas The Kansas State women’s rowing team saw its first action of the spring season claiming three victories on the water at the Longhorn Invitational Friday.

The First Varsity Eight squad comprised of Stephanie Black (cox), Linzi Hauldren, Kaci Williams, Morgan Steele, Grace Riekenberg, Danielle Scott, Larissa Kesler, Amy Wagner and Megan Hauver, finished 18-seconds ahead of Tulsa’s top crew with a winning time of 7:11.8.

K-State’s Second Varsity Eight also outdistanced Tulsa with a first-place time of 7:24.0, while the Second Novice Eight boat capped off the team’s three season-opening victories with a time of 7:47.7 over Texas Crew.

“It was a very good start for us,” Kansas State head coach Patrick Sweeney said. “We rowed with control and we outdid ourselves in all of the races. It was really good to have this kind of performance in preparation for tomorrow. If we can actually perform well and get really close, we will be within striking distance (of No. 15 Texas).”

The Wildcats will take on Texas and SMU tomorrow with races scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Competition continues through Sunday. Complete race results can be accessed at: www.texassports.com.
