GO WILDCATS

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State women’s rowing team will open the 2007 spring season at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas hosted by University of Texas.  The seventh annual spring regatta will be held at Town Lake on Mar. 16-18.

The Wildcat will compete against top collegiate crews including Central Florida, Duke, Iowa, Miami and Texas.  “It is good to be finally getting into the racing season,” said head coach Patrick Sweeney.  “This young team has worked well in their preparation and are excited to get a chance to let it out!  Going up against such strong opposition straight off presents an excellent challenge and the chance to learn much in a short space of time.”

Racing will feature head-to-head competition between the six schools, with K-State scheduled to take on Texas and Duke in Novice Eight and Varsity Eight races on Friday.  The Wildcats will face Central Florida and Miami on Saturday and Iowa on Sunday.

Last season, K-State Novice teams dominated the event as the 1N8+ defeated Duke, Iowa and Miami while the 1N4+ claimed victories over Iowa, Miami and Wisconsin.  The Second Varsity Eight boat also had a strong showing as they knocked off Duke.
