AUSTIN, Texas - Kansas State's rowing team finished the third day of the Longhorn Invitational rowing event dropping four races to Duke at Austin's Town Lake.

In the varsity eight competition, Kansas State managed its fourth straight sub 7-minute run of the spring with a 6:59.5, but was bettered by Duke's 6:47.2. The time was only 3.4 seconds behind the season-best mark of 6:56.1 posted yesterday against SMU.

"I was very happy with the progress we made and how we executed yesterday," said Wildcat head coach Jenny Hale.

The Wildcats second varsity eight was edged out by the Blue Devils which covered the 2,000-meter course in 7:09.4, beating K-State by 3.4 seconds.

"The second varsity eight rowed a pretty decent first 1,000 meters and should have been able to control the race," said Wildcat head coach Jenny Hale. "They were only a couple seats down on Duke at the 1,000-meter mark."

Duke's novice eight went 7:23.6 to defeat the 'Cats by under six seconds in the first race of the dual. The varsity four race was also captured by the Blue Devils with a time a 7:59.4.

"I think the times are reflective of us trying to get out of the blocks for the first time," Hale said. "Also, going four races in three days and not quite having the on the water stamina to handle it."

"I think we let the fatigue get to us today," Hale said. "As a result, we raced a little heavy and slow off the front end."

Kansas State will next be in action at home on March 29, as they host a triangular with Iowa and Clemson at 9 a.m. on Tuttle Creek Lake in Manhattan, Kan.
