Wildcat Varsity Eight Sweeps SMU, Tulsa

Austin, Texas - Kansas State's first varsity eight won a pair of races on Saturday in the second day of the Longhorn Invitational rowing event being held at Austin's Town Lake.

In the morning, the Wildcats beat SMU by covering the 2,000-meter course in 7:07.9, beating the Mustangs by less than five seconds.

Also in a series of races with SMU, Kansas State won the first novice eight with a time of 7:57.8 and the second varsity eight in 7:24.2. The Mustangs won the second novice fours, as the Wildcats rowed the course in 8:52.4.

In the afternoon, K-State's first varsity eight went 7:29.4 to defeat Tulsa in much slower racing conditions. The Wildcats also won the first novice eight race with Tulsa, earning the win by nearly 42 seconds.

Also, in match races in the afternoon, the Wildcat second varsity eight battled Texas to within a half-second before just losing at the line. The 2V8 boat lost to Texas by 11 seconds on Friday.

Racing ends on Sunday with a series of races that has Kansas State paired with Clemson. The Wildcat first varsity eight has gone 2-1 thus far at the Longhorn Invitational.
