Kansas State Takes Third at Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Boucher places fifth to lead Wildcats

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Kansas State rebounded in the second and third rounds to move from eigth place to finish third at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate.

“We had a better day and almost got back in there,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “The little white ball just did not want to go into the hole for us. But we finished strong and that’s what we needed to do.” Defending champion Christine Boucher reduced her scores each round for a total of 221, finishing fifth, at 5-over par.

“She’ll be happy to know she got fifth,” Knight said. “We played well on this course last year and got a lot of birdies and good results. We had a slow start this year and we just needed to keep that in perspective. I do think the team responded well.”

Team champion Notre Dame shot the lowest total in each round with scores of 301-300-291 - 892. The Irish were 16 strokes ahead of second-place Texas Tech (908).

Wildcat junior Sarah Heffel shot 76 for all three rounds to place 17th at 228, while senior Karen Quintelier reduced her scores each round to finish tied for 37th, with a three-round score of 234.

The Wildcats return to the links next spring at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., on Feb. 23-24.
