Kansas State in Eighth at Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Boucher, Heffel tied for 17th to lead Wildcats

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Kansas State shot a team total of 309 for 8th place through the first 18 holes at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Monday.

The Wildcats trail leading Notre Dame by just eight strokes.

“Today, we were just there,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We had some putts that wouldn’t fall and we just never really got anything going.”

On a day that started out sunny but turned to rain, K-State struggled to get any momentum during the first 27 holes.

“It was a bit rainy,” Knight said. “But I don’t think that was a huge factor. Compared to what we’re used to and the weather we had for the Marilynn Smith Invitational, this was a walk in the park.”

Defending champion Christine Boucher and Sarah Heffel lead the Wildcats in a tie for 17th. The pair shot a 4-over 76.

“We just missed some putts,” Knight said. “We had the opportunities. Since we have three players that have played this course before, I think tomorrow will definitely be a stronger day for us.”

The Wildcats continue play at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Tuesday in Kiawah Island, S.C.
