Kansas State Rebound on Day Two of Adidas Invitational

PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Kansas State shot the lowest second round of the field Monday to improve to second place in the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational. The team’s 291 Monday was 14 strokes better than Sunday’s first round.

“The team will be excited with where we stand now,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We know we can play with Baylor and Missouri. Today we got ourselves in a nice spot and we’re pumped.” Senior Christine Boucher shot a 1-under 71 to tie for third place Monday. Her second-round score was also the best of the field for the day. “Christine putted a lot better today,” Knight said. “She just had a couple bad holes. The key is really the rest of the team.”

The team is coming through for Knight. Freshman Helene Robert follows Boucher tied for fifth, with a round at even-par. Senior Karen Quintelier follows one stroke behind Robert with a combined 148 to tie for seventh. Quintelier also shot an even par 72 today.

“The girls were more comfortable wtih the look of the course today,” Knight said. “It’s a tree-lined course and that makes for some tight fairways that don’t really compare to anything we’ve seen so far. We got a late start yesterday and it was just an off day in general so I’m pleased with how the team responded and played today.”

The Wildcat team trails leading Baylor by six strokes and leads Missouri by one. Boucher trails Baylor’s Josefin Svenningsson by five strokes and Denver’s Emily Hoeper by just two.

Other competing Wildcats include junior Sarah Heffel, who fired a 76 Monday to improve to a tie for 44th. Junior Stephanie Limoges sits with a combined 161, tied for 53rd while freshman Katy Heffel is three strokes behind Limoges in a tie for 66th.

“Sarah was a little tentative yesterday,” Knight said. “She had some soreness in her rib cage so it was tough for her to swing her clubs. She felt better today and she showed it.”
