Women's Golf Team Wins Mariliynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational
'It's fun to win,' head coach Kristi Knight said. 'We've kept our momentum going this fall and the team is very excited. The best we've done before at a home tournament is third, so this is big step for the team.'
Five Wildcats finished in the top 20, including one who competed as an individual. Senior Christine Boucher shot rounds of 76-75-75. Boucher was disappointed with her putting effort, but kept her composure to finish tied for third. Karen Quintelier had her best finish of the year as she tied for sixth. Stephanie Limoges finished tied for ninth with rounds of 79-74-82 for a combined 235. Sarah Heffel shot a combined 236 for a tie for 14th and Helene Robert rounded out the top 20 as she tied for 18th with scores of 76-82-79.
'I'm really proud of our team today,' Knight said. 'We got ourselves into some tough spots but were able to work things out. No one would say they played well, but they did play good enough to win.'
Big 12 rivals
'There were more lower scores yesterday in the bad weather,' Knight said. 'Today the wind was a factor all day and the hole locations were tougher.'
