Wildcats Stay Close to Home
For their fourth tournament this season, Kansas State travels to Wichita, Kan. for the Marilyn Sunflower Invitational Oct. 14-15. The invitational is a two-day, 54-hole tournament played at Willowbend Golf Club. The field will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday. Play begins each day with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The Lineup
Junior Christine Boucher will tee-off first for the Wildcats Oct. 14. Senior Miranda Smith will tee-off second followed by junior Karen Quintelier. Senior Elise Carpentier is No. 4 for the Wildcats. Sophomore Sarah Heffel will tee-off fifth. Sophomore Stephanie Limoges and freshman Julie Kim will play as individuals.
Marilyn Sunflower Invitational
The tournament is tri-hosted by Wichita State, Kansas and K-State. Last fall, the Wildcats took third out of 17 teams at the Sunflower Invitational played at the Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. The event was originally a 54-hole format, but was reduced to a one-round tournament due to weather. Junior Christine Boucher was low for the Wildcats placing ninth by shooting a 77. Next year, the tournament will be played at Colbert Hills.
Boucher Continues to Roll
Junior Christine Boucher has been a consistent force for the Wildcats this fall. By placing in a tie for 14th at the Shootout at the Legends Oct. 8, Boucher claimed her third top-20 finish of the season. She also carded her best round of the season by shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round in Indiana. Boucher is leading the team with a 75 stroke average.
About the Field
For the third time this season, the Wildcats will face Big 12 rival Kansas. K-State is 2-0 against the Jayhawks this fall. The Wildcats are 2-0 against Notre Dame, which they also face for the third time.
Coach's Take on the Sunflower
"We have had mixed results at the Sunflower Invitational in the past," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I am happy with the way we finished out the tournament in Indiana. The team can do well if we stay patient and play smart golf."
Shootout at the Legends Recap
The Wildcats finished in 10th place at the Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Ind. Oct. 7-8 by carding two stellar rounds to close out the event on a up-note. The team carded a 302 in its final round to finish with a combined score of 921 (318-301-302). Junior Christine Boucher shot a 1-under 71 in the final round. Boucher finished in a three-way tie for 14th place with a combined score of 225 for her third top-20 finish this year. Senior Miranda Smith shot 76 in the final round to tie for 22nd place.
