Kansas State in Tenth at New Mexico State
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Six golfers shot at or below par on the first day of the Price's Give Em Five Challenge Monday. Each of the players from tournament leaders Florida State and Oklahoma finished the first round in the top 20, while no Kansas State player cracked the top 10 and the team finished in 10th.
'We weren't good today and we weren't bad either,' head coach Kristi Knight said. 'We only had six birdies as a team, but our putts just weren't falling. We muddled through and tomorrow is a new day.' Wildcat senior Christine Boucher again led K-State, shooting a three-over 75, for a tie for 13th. Helene Robert is tied at 36th with an opening round score of 78. The Heffel sisters are tied at 46th. Both Sarah and Katy shot a 79, while Karen Quintelier took one more stroke to finish the day tied for 55th. 'The girls liked the course,' Knight said. 'They just need a little more confidence on the greens. The speeds on the greens were really inconsistent and we just hope we can get things to fall tomorrow.' The Wildcats continue play at the Price's Give Em Five Challenge Tuesday, teeing off at 7:44 a.m. For complete results of the Price's Give Em Five Challenge, please visit Kansas State's website at www.kstatesports.com.
