LAS CRUCES, N.M. -  Kansas State shot a third-round 325 and dropped to ninth place with a score of 933 at the Price’s Give Em Five Challenge Tuesday. With scores higher today across the board, head coach Kristi Knight said the wind played a large factor in the round.

“Today was a tough day,” Knight said. “It was bad golf. With the wind as strong as it was, bad shots are just made worse. Today was not as good a ball-striking day as yesterday and that was just magnified by the wind.”

Sophomore Helene Robert again led the Wildcats, tying for 23rd with a combined 230. Her third-round 80 dropped her from a tie for ninth after 36 holes. Knight said the team got off to a bad start, including Robert’s double bogey on the first hole. Freshman Michelle Regan shot her first tee ball out of bounds.

“They were battling the conditions on this tough course,” Knight said. “But the team just wasn’t executing.”

Texas Tech’s Kim Kolb won the individual title, with a 2-under 214, while Arizona State took home the team trophy, carding rounds of 297-297-299--893.

Knight says all she asks of the players is that they learn from this experience.

“There’s no mulligan here,” she said. “We can’t go back and do this tournament over, give it another shot. All I can say is that the players battled. They didn’t quit. It just wasn’t a good day of golf.”
