'Cats in fifth after 36 at Price's Give 'Em Five Challenge

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Kansas State is in fifth place after 36 holes at the Price's Give 'Em Five Challenge Monday. The team shot rounds of 303-305--608, 16 strokes behind leading Texas Tech.

   Head coach Kristi Knight says the key to success is getting the entire team to play well at the same time.

   "Helene (Robert) and Michelle (Regan) had good rounds this morning," Knight explained. "Then Sarah (Heffel) had a good round this afternoon. If we can all get rolling in the same round, we can go really low."

   Texas Tech's Kim Kolb and Valerie Tan are first and second, respectively, in the indvidual bracket. Sophomore Helene Robert leads the Wildcats, tied for ninth.

   Knight said she and the team are looking forward to the final 18 holes Tuesday. She says that the team will have adjusted to the New Mexico heat and she hopes they will be more comfortable on the greens, ready to sink putts.

   "They know they can do it," Knight said. "We're doing a lot better than last week and we have obviously improved and learned a lot in the past week of practice."
