MANHATTAN, Kan. A thunderstorm that rolled through Manhattan Tuesday morning caused the cancellation of the final 18 holes of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills. The final results are based off the 36 holes played Monday on the par 72, 6,157-yard course, and that left Kansas State tied for third place after shooting 29-over par 605.

K-State led the tournament after the first 18 holes after a team score of 299. However, Kansas and Missouri were able to overtake the Wildcats in Monday’s second round and finish in the top two spots. It is K-State’s second top-5 finish this fall in just three tournaments.

“We’re obviously very disappointed that we can’t play,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “But that’s the way it goes. We don’t have any control over it. It is what it is. Kansas played the best 36 holes of golf yesterday.”

Kansas won after posting a team total of 24-over par 600, and Missouri finished in second with a 25-over par score of 602. Missouri’s Julia Potter took home an individual championship after her day of 1-under par golf, firing a 143.

Senior Kali Quick played consistently on Monday, shooting a pair of 1-over par 73s. The senior from Nampa, Idaho, came in at third place, and her rounds of 73 were just one stroke short of her top 18-hole score this fall, a 72 at the Chip-N-Club Invitational. Quick’s day included an eagle two on the par-4 ninth hole during her first round. Her third-place finish is her second top-5 this season.

Abbi Sunner finished in a tie for 17^th with an 8-over par 152. Sunner fired a pair of 76s and was able to earn her second top-20 finish this season and the fifth of her career.

Michelle Regan and Hailey Mireles both carded rounds of 10-over par 154 to finish in a tie for 23^rd. Regan shot a 6-over 78 on her first 18 holes and improved that by two strokes on her final 18. Mireles shot a season-best 72 on her opening round, beating out her 76 at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, before posting an 82 to end the day. The 23^rd-place finish is her best of the young season.

Freshman Elise Houtz, playing as an individual, shot rounds of 79 and 77 for a 12-over par finish of 156 in her first tournament of the year. She finished tied for 28^th-place.

Krista Nelson, playing as an individual, fired an 18-over par 162 and tied for 53^rd. Morgan Moon tied for 60^th after posting a score of 20-over par 164. Emily Houtz, also seeing her first tournament action as a Wildcat, finished in 66^th place after a score of 25-over par 169.
