MARILYNN SMITH/SUNFLOWER INVITATIONAL PREVIEW: Paige Osterloo started the season off on the right foot with a second-place finish in the first event of the season and will lead the Wildcats again this week in Lawrence. The junior tallied a 36-hole score of 1-over par 145 to captrue the best finish of her career and the best finish for a Wildcat since former K-Stater Michelle Regan tied for first at the 2007 Bronco Fall Invitational.
Ami Storey competed as an individual in the previous event but will contribute to team competition this week. Storey tied for eighth, scoring a 5-over par 149. This will be Storey’s 16th event as a Wildcat.
Sophomore Whitney Pyle will make her second consecutive appearance in coach Kristi Knight’s lineup for the first time in the Blue Mound, Kan. native’s career. Pyle joined Storey in eighth place to record the best finish of her young career.
Gianna Misenhelter will also make another appearance in K-State’s lineup this week after finishing in a tie for 16th in her first collegiate competition.
LAST TIME OUT: K-State’s first action of the season saw dark skies and wet conditions limit its first event to just two rounds.
In the final round, Osterloo fired a 1-under par 72 to earn a second-place finish and lead the Wildcats to a share for second place in team competition at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, held at the par 72, 6,214-yard Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.
K-State placed four individuals in the top 20, including three in the top 10. The Wildcats were matched on the leaderboard by Kansas, while they were able to defeat Big 12 foes Missouri, which placed fifth, and host school Nebraska, which came in 13th.
2009 MARILYNN SMITH/SUNFLOWER INVITATIONAL: Last year’s invitational was held at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, as the event rotates between Lawrence and Manhattan each year. Roos shot a final round score of 75 (+3) to propel the Wildcats to a third place finish in its only home competition of that year.
