Mireles takes third at Kansas Women's Amateur


 

 
 

Winfield, Kan. Kansas State sophomore-to-be Hailey Mireles (Garden City, Kan.) fired a three-round total of 237, then held off Manhattan’s Rita Gregory to place third in the Championship flight of the 2005 Kansas Women's Golf Association Amateur at the Winfield Country Club Thursday.

 

Mireles, who competed in five tournaments for the Wildcats during the 2004-05 season as a true freshman, shot a two-day total of 156 and was tied for third after 36 holes before finishing up with an 81 in tough conditions and holding off Gregory in a playoff.

 

Arkansas golfer Courtney Mahon, formerly of Topeka, clamed medallist honors with a 54-hole score of 223. Wichita native Missy Linnens finished second three strokes behind Mahon with a score of 226.
