K-State improves three spots on day two of NCAA Regional


 

 
 

NORMAL, Ill. - The Kansas State women's golf team improved 15 strokes and three spots on the second day of the NCAA Central Region Tournament on Friday by posting a second round total of 311 at the Illinois State Golf Course.

 

            The Wildcats, who shot a 326 on day one to finish in 21st place, are currently in a tie for 18th place with Ivy League champion Princeton with a two-round total of 637.

 

            Vanderbilt and Michigan State are in first place after day two with identical scores of 605 (+37).  Baylor collected the day’s best round of 297 to move 10 spots from 13th to third with total score of 609 (+41), while USC and Arizona round out the top 5 with totals of 611 and 612, respectively. 

 

            Arizona’s Erica Blasberg leads all individuals with a two-round score of 141 (-1) after a 73 on Friday.  SMU’s Laura Cross is two strokes behind in second at 143 after a 72, while Vanderbilt’s May Wood is in third place at 145 after a 72.

 

            Nearly every member of the K-State team improved their score on day two with senior and reigning Big 12 Conference Player of the Year Christine Boucher and junior Sarah Heffel making the most improvement.

 

            Boucher improved 10 strokes after posting a four-over 75 on Friday to tie for 64th at 160.  Heffel shaved six strokes off to tie for 38th at 156 with a second-round score of a four-over 75.  She is one stroke ahead of senior Karen Quintelier, who sits in a tie for 44th at 157 after firing an eight-over 79.

 

            Junior Stephanie Limoges is tied for 87th with a two-round score of 164, including an 11-over 83 on Friday, while freshman Helene Robert is tied for 103th after a 12-over round of 83, which gives her a score of 169 for the tournament.
