K-State Heads to Big 12 Championship
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- After completing regular-season play, the Kansas State women’s golf team is traveling south for the Big 12 Championship in Stillwater, Okla., on Friday through Sunday, April 25-27. The Wildcats will take on the rest of the Big 12 for 54 holes on the par 72, 6,210-yard Karsten Creek Golf Course. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament at www.golfstat.com. The K-State women will be paired with Kansas and Texas A&M, with the tee times set in 10-minute intervals from 9-9:40 a.m. off hole No. 1. Seniors Michelle Regan and Kali Quick will anchor the Wildcat attack, with sophomore Abbi Sunner, senior Hailey Mireles and freshman Elise Houtz also representing the Wildcats. Both Regan and Quick lead the team with a 76.96 stroke average. The pair has nine top-20 finishes this season between them, including five top-5 appearances and one individual victory and have played in every tournament this year. Sunner and Mireles are the other two Wildcats to have competed in every event during the 2007-08 season. Sunner owns a 78.39 stroke average and Mireles checks in at 79.04. Houtz will be playing in the eighth event of her freshman campaign. The Manhattan, Kan., product has an 81.21 average on the season. K-State Line-up Karsten Creek GC A Look at the Field Last Time Out Louisville retained its day-one lead and won the tournament at 7-over par 871. The Cardinals’ Cindy LaCrosse took home individual honors as well after a 4-under 212 for the two days, including an opening-round 67. Quick’s 2-under par final round helped move her into a tie for 25th at 9-over 225 for three rounds. The 70 was her best effort as a Wildcat by two strokes, as she has carded a 72 in five previous tournaments during her career. Hailey Mireles also finished at 225 and in a tie for 25th. Abbi Sunner was just one stroke back at 10-over par 226 and in a tie for 30th. Wildcat Gimmies On the season, Quick has led the Wildcats in six tournaments, while Regan has been the top Wildcat in three and fellow senior Hailey Mireles one. While Quick, Regan, Sunner, and Mireles have played in every tournament this year, the fifth spot in the Wildcat line-up has been up for grabs throughout the season. Junior Krista Nelson has claimed that spot in two tournaments, sophomore Morgan Moon also has two appearances and freshman Elise Houtz has made the trip six different times, with her seventh coming at the Big 12 Championship. Last Year at the Big 12 Championship Kansas State’s top finisher was senior Helene Robert. Robert carded a 80-76-78234 (+18) to finish her last tournament as a Wildcat tied for 20th place, her 16th career top-20 finish. |
