April 22, 2003
Manhattan, Kan. - Junior Christine Boucher was named to first team All-Big 12, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Quebec native becomes the first Wildcat to win the first-team award. Boucher was named second team All-Big 12 in 2001 and 2002. She was also named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for November in 2002.
"I am so happy for Christine," head coach Kristi Knight said. "She is excited. This is a big accomplishment for her and for our program. The award is special."
Boucher, who is currently fifth in the Big 12 with a 74.75 stroke average, has competed in all 29 rounds for the Wildcats this year. She won two individual tournament titles this season, capturing medalist honors at the Edwin Watts Palmetto Intercollegiate and the Mountain View Collegiate. She has five top-five finishes and has placed in the top 20 in every tournament this season.
At the Edwin Watts Palmetto Intercollegiate, Nov. 4-5, Boucher set three school records and tied an NCAA mark at Oak Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C. She won the tournament by eight strokes, carding a 67-73-64-204 (-12). Boucher's opening round of 5-under par 67 set a school record for a single round. She would re-set the school record and tie the NCAA single-round record by firing an 8-under par 64 during the final round.
At the Mountain View Collegiate, March 18-19, in Tucson, Ariz., Boucher shot rounds of 76-71-70-217 (+1) to claim the individual title. Boucher, who was one stroke off the individual leader after day one, came from behind to claim the third tournament title of her career.
