Off the Tee

The Kansas State Wildcats complete the season at the Big 12 Championship April 22-24 in Austin, Texas. Teams will play 18 holes each day. The Wildcats tee off beginning at 8 a.m. off No. 1 with Oklahoma and Texas Friday.

 

Last Time Out

The Wildcats finished sixth at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. K-State shot a combined 941. Sophomore Helene Robert tied for 20th with a 231 to lead the Wildcats. The Wildcats defeated Big 12 opponents Oklahoma and Nebraska.

 

For the Futures

Senior Sarah Heffel qualified for the Lawrence Futures Golf Classic April 17. Shooting a 74 to tie with teammate Hailey Mireles and Kansas’ Tiffany Woods, Heffel chipped in on the playoff hole to claim the spot for the Futures Tour event May 6-8 at Eagle Bend in Lawrence, Kan.

 

Classy Cats

Four Wildcats were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team. Sophomores Katy Heffel and Helene Robert claimed the honor for the first time, while seniors Sarah Heffel and Stephanie Limoges took the honor for the third consecutive year.

 

Seeing Double

Freshman Kali Quick and sophomore Helene Robert are battling to be the team leader this spring. Currently, Robert is .3 strokes ahead of Quick with a 77.5 average. Quick finished in the top 20 of three fall tournaments. She tied for 19th in the season-opening Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic, tied for fifth in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational and tied for 14th in the Wildcats’ outing at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. Over the fall, Robert led the team as she finished tied for fifth at the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic, tied for 26th at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational and tied for 23rd at the Price’s Give Em Five Challenge.

 

There’s No Place Like Home

Sophomore Katy Heffel appreciates her game in her native Arizona. At the Mountain View Invitational, Heffel was within two hours of her hometown of Mesa, Ariz. As her family traveled to watch her and her older sister Sarah compete, Katy Heffel set her career best as she tied for 15th and carded 76-73-71--220.

 

Knight Time

Head coach Kristi Knight continues her 10th campaign with the Wildcats this spring. Under Knight, K-State has recorded five tournament wins, including the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational and the Texas A&M Mo’Morial during the 2003-04 season. The Texas native and Oklahoma alum has coached Wildcat teams to four straight NCAA Regional appearances and 32 top-five finishes.

 

Fall Highlights

The Kansas State women’s golf program opened the fall with a tie for fourth at the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic with a combined 907. Sophomore Helene Robert tied for fifth, with a season-best 217. Robert again led the Wildcats in their ninth-place finish at the Price’s Give Em Five Challenge as she tied for 23rd. In the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, K-State finished fifth, with three golfers in the top 20 and five of seven student-athletes recording their then-season-best. Freshman Kali Quick paced the Wildcats at the Edwin Watts Intercollegiate as she tied for 14th with a career-best 223.
