Lady Golfers Head to Big 12 Championships
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will start postseason play at the 14th annual Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in Norman, Okla., at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, April 23-25. K-State's first round will tee-off at 8:00 a.m. (CT) on Friday. Live stats can be followed at www.golfstat.com.
THE FIELD: The Big 12 Conference announced the pairings for the first round that are based off of the GolfWeek team rankings. Friday, April 23:
Tee-times for rounds two and three will be determined after the conclusion of the previous rounds.
BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: K-State will look to top last year's peformance at the Big 12 Championships where the Wildcats finished fourth overall.
Heading K-State's lineup will be senior Abbi Sunner, who is competing in her 11th event of the season. Sunner has held the lowest stroke average on the team throughout the season.
Hanna Roos, who has been playing the most consistent golf this spring, will be making her eighth appearance in head coach Kristi Knight's lineup. Roos has recorded a 77.20 stroke-average during the spring swing.
Morgan Moon will compete in her second-consecutive Big 12 Championship appearance. The senior finished in a tie for 15th last year at the conference championship.
Emily Houtz has qualified for her second consecutive event after finishing 19th at the Baylor Spring Invitational. Houtz will make her sixth appearance in the Wildcat lineup this season.
Rounding out the lineup will be Ami Storey, who returns to the lineup after sitting out the last two events.
2009 BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP: The K-State women's golf team recorded its highest finish in postseason history at the Big 12 Championships after placing fourth at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. Elise Houtz, Moon and Storey all finished in the top-20 and the Wildcats carded a 311-311-322-944 (+68) tournament score for a fourth-place finish.
JIMMIE AUSTIN GOLF CLUB: The event will take place at the par 72, 6,322-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The course opened for play in January of 1951.
LAST TIME OUT: Emily Houtz and Roos each captured a top-20 performance among 89 competitors in the Baylor Spring Invitational at Twin Rivers Golf Club. Houtz placed a career-best 19th after a third-round score of 6-over par 78. Houtz's 54-hole score of 17-over par 233 tied for the lowest of her career. It was the first top-20 finish of the junior's campaign at K-State.
