Coming to a Close
The Kansas State women's golf team ends its regular season at the Big 12 Championship at the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., April 21-23. The fields plays 18 holes each day with an 8 a.m. start. The course is a 72-par, 6,008 yard private country club. The first day random pairing are as follows:
Group 1: Kansas State, Texas, Texas Tech. Group 2: Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas. Group 3: Baylor, Oklahoma State, Colorado. Group 4: Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas A&M.
The Wildcats are taking a familiar lineup into the Big 12 Championship. Junior Christine Boucher, senior Miranda Smith, junior Karen Quintelier, sophomore Sarah Heffel and sophomore Stephanie Limoges are making the trip to Columbia, Mo.
The Big 12 Championships
K-State made serious strides last year at the Big 12 Championship at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan. The Wildcats' sixth-place finish is its highest since joining the Big 12. The team recorded scores of 313-308-330-926. Christine Boucher finished second among individuals, carding scores of 76-71-77-224. It was the highest finish ever for a Wildcat in a conference championship. Only four teams have won the Big 12 Tournaments in its six-year existence. Oklahoma State is the lone multiple winner. The Cowgirls won the 1999, 2001 and 2003 titles. Texas claimed the first title in 1997, followed by Texas A&M in 1998. Oklahoma took home the title in 2000.
Scouting the Big 12
According to the Golfweek - Sagarin rankings, seven Big 12 teams are ranked in the top 50. Oklahoma State is ranked No. 3, followed by No. 4 Texas. Oklahoma is ranked 23, followed by Baylor (29), Missouri (39) and Kansas State (47). The Wildcats are 17-10-2 against Big 12 teams this year. They are 4-0 against Kansas, 4-0-1 against Nebraska and 2-1 against Texas Tech. Texas and Oklahoma State are the only teams K-State has not faced this year.
Rewinding Susie Maxwell Classic
Despite facing cold and rainy conditions, the Kansas State women's golf team jumped up three spots in the final standings of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic to tie for fifth place. The Wildcats carded scores of 325-318-316-959 to tie with Arkansas-Little Rock. For the second straight year, Oklahoma claimed the team title at the Classic. The individual title went to Oklahoma's Emily Milberger, who carded a 224.
Junior Christine Boucher moved up three spots after two rounds to land in a three-way tie for fifth place. She recorded scores of 75-80-78-233. Senior Miranda Smith claimed her fourth top-15 finish of the spring. She shot rounds of 83-78-76-237 to tie for 12th place.
Boucher in the Top Five
Junior Christine Boucher is ranked No. 5 individually in Big 12 standings. The Quebec-native boasts a 74.75 stroke average for the year. She claimed her third tournament title this spring at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. March 18-19. Boucher also has two top-five finishes this spring and has five for the year. Boucher has placed in the top 20 in every tournament this year.
