MANHATTAN, Kan.--Three members of the Kansas State women's golf team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced today. Senior Gianna Misenhelter and sophomore Scotland Preston were named to the first team, while junior Carly Ragains was named to the second team.

"I am very proud of these three players," head coach Kristi Knight said. "They are all dedicated and diligent students. They have shown tremendous academic consistency while putting in extra time on the course."

Of the 29 golfers to receive academic honors, only Preston was nominated with 4.00 GPA. This year's honor marks the first time Preston, a public relations and economics major, has been selected to the first team and adds to her collection of academic accomplishments, including being named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team.

For Misenhleter, a public relations major, this year's honor marks the third time she has been selected to the Academic All-Big 12 team. The Overland Park, Kan., native currently holds a 76.50 scoring average and has amassed eight top-10 and 17 top-20 finishes in her golfing career at Kansas State.

Ragains earned her second academic all-conference honor. A business major, Ragains has notched six top-20 finishes this season, including a season-best tie for fifth at the BYU/Entrada Classic.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Wildcats will return to action, April 25-27, as they head to Austin, Texas, for the Big 12 Championship at the University of Texas Golf Course.
