Manhattan, Kan. - Edie Murdoch, Elise Carpentier, Annie Schneider and Miranda Smith were among 35 student-athletes named to the 2002 Women's Golf Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Murdoch, a senior in golf course management, was named to the first team for the fourth year. The Grants, N.M., native redshirted the 1999 season and was named to the first team in 1998, 2000 and 2001.

Carpentier, a junior in management from Pont-Rouge, Quebec, Canada, made her second appearance on the all-conference team, but it was the first time she was named to the first team. She was named to the second team last year.

Smith, a junior from Hideaway Hills, Ohio, was named to the All-Big 12 Academic Team for the second year in a row.

A senior from Southlake, Texas, Schneider collected her second Academic All-Big 12 nomination. She was a first-team choice in 1999.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 35 first-team members with five on the second-team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point average, while the second-team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her or his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
