Four golfers claim first team Academic All-Big 12 honors

Manhattan, Kan. - Four members of the Kansas State women's golf team received first team Academic All-Big 12 honors, the Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday.
Senior Miranda Smith, who is second on the team with a 75.93 stroke average, was recognized three times in her career. She is a double major in marketing and international business.
Senior Elise Carpentier, a business major, is a two-time first team Academic All-Big selection and was a second team honoree in 2001.
First team members are those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second team nominees are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19. To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or in the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfer students are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
The Wildcats compete in the Big 12 Conference Championships, April 21-23, in Columbia, Mo.
