Tee’d Off The Kansas State women’s golf team tees off at the Susie Maxwell Classic Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and will play 36 holes. On Tuesday, the final round begins at 8 a.m. also. Last Time Out The Wildcats finished 11th at the Mountain View Collegiate March 27-28. K-State had previously had success at that tournament. In 2003, Christine Boucher won the individual title, while the team won the tournament in 2002. Back For More Last spring the Wildcats finished fifth of 16 teams at the Susie Maxwell Classic, shooting a three-round 959. Christine Boucher led K-State, with scores of 75-80-78--233 for fifth place. Oklahoma looks to defend their home course, as well as the past three titles in this tournament. The Sooners pulled away last year for a 22-stroke win. Ranked Up There Senior Christine Boucher is No. 27 in the Golfstat Cup rankings this week. Her 74.33 average is only 3.376 behind leadin Elizabeth Janangelo of Duke. Oklahoma’s Lisa Meldrum is No. 41 behind Boucher, with a 75.17 average. Boucher is the highest ranked golfer in this tournament’s field. Boucher’s Big Fall Boucher won her fourth tournament title during the Wildcats’ first competition this fall in Lincoln, Neb. Her three-over 219 helped the Wildcats to a tie for second place, behind host Nebraska. Boucher won her fifth title at the Price’s Give Em Five Challenge, shooting a combined 213. Her third-round 67 is the second best of Boucher’s career. Her 54-hole score is the second best in K-State history. Boucher holds the record from the Edwin Watts Collegiate (Nov. 4-5, 2002), where she shot a combined 204. Fresh Impact Freshman Helene Robert made an impression on the Wildcat golf program last fall. Robert averaged 77.8 strokes, the second-best score of the team. She finished in the Top 20 three out of the five tournaments and in the Top 5 once. Her combined 221 at the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational was her career low. Sister, Sister Freshman Katy Heffel will agin join the lineup at the Susie Maxwell Classic after being out of the top 5 since the fall. Her older sister, Sarah Heffel, is third on the team averaging 78.96 over 27 rounds. Katy averaged 81.5 in the fall. She replaces senior Karen Quintelier, who will compete as an individual. Big in the Big 12 Senior Christine Boucher is No. 2 in the Big 12 rankings this week, merely .13 strokes behind Missouri’s Denise Knaebel. Oklahoma’s Lisa Meldrum is currently in fifth with a 75.17 stroke average. Josefin Svenningsson of Baylor is eighth with a 75.5 average. |
