Back For More
Last spring the Wildcats finished fifth of 16 teams at the Susie Maxwell Classic, shooting a three-round 959. Christine Boucher led K-State, with scores of 75-80-78--233 for fifth place. Oklahoma looks to defend their home course, as well as the past three titles in this tournament. The Sooners pulled away last year for a 22-stroke win.
Ranked Up There
Senior Christine Boucher is No. 27 in the Golfstat Cup rankings this week. Her 74.33 average is only 3.376 behind leadin Elizabeth Janangelo of Duke. Oklahoma’s Lisa Meldrum is No. 41 behind Boucher, with a 75.17 average. Boucher is the highest ranked golfer in this tournament’s field.
Boucher’s Big Fall
Boucher won her fourth tournament title during the Wildcats’ first competition this fall in Lincoln, Neb. Her three-over 219 helped the Wildcats to a tie for second place, behind host Nebraska. Boucher won her fifth title at the Price’s Give Em Five Challenge, shooting a combined 213. Her third-round 67 is the second best of Boucher’s career. Her 54-hole score is the second best in K-State history. Boucher holds the record from the Edwin Watts Collegiate (Nov. 4-5, 2002), where she shot a combined 204.
Freshman Helene Robert made an impression on the Wildcat golf program last fall. Robert averaged 77.8 strokes, the second-best score of the team. She finished in the Top 20 three out of the five tournaments and in the Top 5 once. Her combined 221 at the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational was her career low.
Freshman Katy Heffel will agin join the lineup at the Susie Maxwell Classic after being out of the top 5 since the fall. Her older sister, Sarah Heffel, is third on the team averaging 78.96 over 27 rounds. Katy averaged 81.5 in the fall. She replaces senior Karen Quintelier, who will compete as an individual.
