RE-WRITING THE RECORD BOOKS: The Kansas State women’s golf team shredded the record books when they traveled to Tuscon, Ariz. For the 2007 Mountain View Collegiate. The team broke or tied nine team or individual records during their outing in Tuscon. The team had a 36 hole total for their second and third round of 584, shattering the old record which was 597.Senior Katy Heffel posted a career best 18-hole score of 70, beating her previous career best 71 which she shot at the 2005 Mountain View Collegiate. Heffel also carded a career best 54-hole score of 218. Her previous best was 220, which she also carded at the 2005 Mountain View Collegiate. Junior Hailey Mireles tied her career 18-hole mark with a 71. Mireles’s 54-hole score of 224 topped her previous best which was a 226 at the 2006 Sunflower Invitational. Junior Michelle Regan shot a career best 217, beating her 223 which she shot at the 2006 Susie Maxwell Invitational. Freshman Morgam Moon carded a career best 18 and 54-hole score at the tournament. Moon’s 18-hole score of 72 beat her previous best of 82 at the 2007 Baja Classic. Moon’s 54-hole score of 226 destroyed her previous mark of 267 at the 2006 Badger Invitational. Freshman Abbi Sunner carded a career best 54-hole score of 235, besting her 236 that she shot at the 2006 Chip-N-Club Invitational. Heffel’s 54- hole score of 217, along with Regan’s 218 both rank in the top-eight in Wildcat history.
THE FIELD: The Wildcats will face an 18-team field at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic including 12 top-100 teams in this weeks Golfweek/Sagarin ranking. The field includes Arkansas (24), Baylor (40), SMU (44), New Mexico State (58), Oklahoma (60), Arkansas-Little Rock (70), Kansas State (76), Kansas (79), UTEP (80), Texas Tech (81), Tulsa (82), Wisconsin (89), Oral Roberts (104), North Texas (118), Wichita State (131), Cameron, Oklahoma City, and Redlands CC.
THE FORMAT: The teams will shoot 36 holes on Sunday, and 18 holes on Monday. Pairings for Monday’s round will be determined by their scores. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round. Tee time for both days is 8 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats finished 10th out of 16 teams at the Mountain View Collegiate. Junior Michelle Regan finished the tournament tied for 10 th after shooting 73-73-71217 (+1). Senior Katy Heffel finished tied for 14th with a score of 75-70-73218 (+2). Junior Hailey Mireles carded a 76-71-77224 (+8) to finish tied for 54th. Senior Helene Robert tied for 53rd after shooting 76-75-74225 (+9). Freshman Morgan Moon carded a 72-75-79226 (+10) to tie for 55th. Freshman Abbi Sunner rounded out the Wildcats with a 76-80-79235 (+19) to tie for 80th.
