HONOLULU, Hawaii The Kansas State women’s golf team was not able to keep its place in the top five in the final round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. The Wildcats were able to place three players in the top 20 for the first time this year and carded a 305-301-318924 (+60) for the tournament.

“We had a tough day today,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “I am proud of the effort and this will be a learning experience for this team. This team is moving in the right direction. Today was a bump in the road.”

Texas A&M won the tournament, climbing all the way from fifth place after day one. Texas A&M was able to jump Idaho in the final round and finish six strokes ahead, carding a 306-301-300907 (+43) for the tournament. Indiana climbed from its number-seven spot in day two to finish at third, with a 53-over for the tournament.

Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro held onto first place during the final round, carding a 3-over on day three to finish at 219 strokes. Lauren Johnson of Texas A&M and Nanae Shinzato of Osaka finished in a tie for second, both shooting a 4-over 220.

Freshman Paige Osterloo paced the Wildcats throughout the tournament, finishing in a tie for 12th and carding an 80-69-80229 (+13) for the tournament.

Abbi Sunner had her third top-20 finish of the season, finishing in a tie for 16th and shooting a 15-over 231 for the tournament. Freshman Ami Storey, who finished just one stroke back from Sunner, had her first top-20 finish of her young career, carding a 16-over 232.

Emily Houtz had the best round of any K-State player on day three with a 3-over par performance. Houtz moved from 28th place after the second round to finish in a tie for 22 nd, which is the highest of her career.

Morgan Moon rounded out the K-State squad, carding a 79-81-81241 (+25).

The Wildcats will resume action at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. on March 28th and 29th.
