HONOLULU, Hawaii The Kansas State women’s golf team moved from a tie for fourth place to second place in the second round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. The Wildcats shaved four strokes off their day-one round and are eyeing their best finish of the season as they carded a 305-301606 (+30) through two rounds.

Idaho was able to hold onto its first-day lead and currently sits firmly in first place, shooting a 297-301598 (+22). K-State jumped Nevada and Osaka Gakuin on the second day and currently sits eight strokes back from the leader. Texas A&M was also able to make up ground in the second round, moving from a tie at fifth to third place.

Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro is currently clinging onto first place, but only by one stroke after shooting a 3-over par on day two. Nanae Shinzato of Osaka moved into second place, carding a 72-73145 (+1).

Freshman Paige Osterloo was the story of round two for the Wildcats. Starting the day tied for 36th place, Osterloo went to work in round two, shooting a 3-under in the second round and currently sits in a tie for sixth place. Osterloo crushed her personal low round of 74, shooting a 69 in the second round and is at 80-69149 (+5) for the tournament.

“Paige had a great round,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “It was her first under-par competitive round in college. It should give her a great deal of confidence.”

Abbi Sunner was able to stay in the top 10 in round two and sits only one stroke back from Osterloo. Ami Storey is right on the heels of Sunner and Osterloo, carding a 74-77151 (+7), as she is tied for 11th place.

Emily Houtz was able to improve in day two as well as she is currently carding an 80-77157 (+13). Morgan Moon rounds out the K-State squad, carding a 79-81160 (+16).

“Emily improved three shots from the first round,” Knight said. “She is hitting a lot a quality shots and has improved a great deal since the fall.

“I am proud of the team; they have played solid golf and have had great attitudes,” Knight said.

The Wildcats will look to lock up their highest finish of the year in round three in tomorrow’s final round tomorrow, which begins at 7:30 a.m. Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time. Final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com as soon as they become available.
