K-State Cuts Strokes in Round Two
“Tomorrow is another day,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “Today was a little bit better, and we need to be a little bit lower still tomorrow. So we’re going to try and build from today and just keep going forward.”
K-State’s Michelle Regan used a 2-under par round of 70, her lowest round of the season, to get back into contention for a top-20 showing. Regan sits in a tie for 21st at 2-over par 146. The senior was 2-under after four holes and even after eight. She then played the final 10 holes in 2-under par fashion and is just one stroke out of the top 20 with one round left.
Four Wildcats improved from round one to round two, and none showed more improvement than Hailey Mireles. Mireles shot a 1-over par 73 after firing an 80 on Monday and is in a tie for 57th at 9-over par 153. Mireles had 17 pars and one bogey on her round Tuesday, and the 73 is one stroke off her best round this season.
“I’m real proud of Hailey,” Knight said. “She was really fighting every aspect of her game in round one. But she went right out to the range yesterday afternoon, and we figured out the keys for her. She went out there today and put it into play. I was very proud of her.”
Elise Houtz missed tying her low round this season by a stroke, shooting a 78 and putting her in a tie for 76th at 13-over par 157. Abbi Sunner is a stroke behind and is tied for 78th. Kali Quick is at 17-over par 161 and tied for 88th.
Final day action of the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. (PT) Wednesday. Kali Quick will be the first Wildcat on the course as she tees off on the back nine at 7:38 a.m. (PT). Sunner, Houtz, Mireles and Regan all follow Quick in eight-minute intervals. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
