Wildcats Finish Fourth In Spring Invitational
Feb. 19, 2002 Manhattan, Kan. - The 54th-ranked Kansas State women's golf team shot rounds of 325-334-305--964 Tuesday to place fourth in its first competition of the spring season at the Cingular Islander Spring Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas. Sophomore Christine Boucher paved the way for the 'Cats with a fifth-place showing, after shooting rounds of 80-80-74--234 at the 13-team invitational, which was played at King's Crossing Golf and Country Club, a par-72, 5,900-yard course. Senior Edie Murdoch shot a final-round 76 after rounds of 83 and 79 Monday (238), to move up to seventh place at the 54-hole invitational. Senior Annie Schneider, who competed individually for the Wildcats, jumped 16 spots to 26th with rounds of 88-83-76--247. Her 26th-place finish tied the best finish of her career. Freshman Sarah Heffel also made a big final-round jump with a 76 after 82 and 90 Monday (248). Junior Miranda Smith finished in 35th with rounds of 82-88-79--249, and junior Elise Carpentier shot rounds of 81-87-84--252 to finish in 41st. Texas-El Paso shot a final-round 296 to jump ahead of host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and claim the title in the 13-team field. Texas-El Paso finished with a three-round total of 952, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was four strokes back at 956. Ashlie Simmons of McLennan Community College took the individual title with scores of 77-81-72--230.
