PARRISH, Fla. The Kansas State women’s golf team improved 12 strokes from the first to the second round but struggled to keep pace with the top of the field Monday at the Central District Invitational. The Wildcats fired rounds of 329 and 317 on the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Golf Course to finish the day at 70-over par 646.

“We hit a bump in the road today,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “But I’m confident they are going to go out and attack it tomorrow and be energetic and do some good things. We’re going to go from there. Today is done. Tomorrow is ahead of us it’s a new day.”

Michigan State is leading the field at 13-over par 589. The Spartans have the top individual from day one as well in Sara Brown, who shot a 4-under par 140 to take the lead with 18 holes to play.

Hailey Mireles was the top Wildcat finisher on Monday, tying for 43^rd after posting a 14-over par 158. Abbi Sunner bounced back from an opening round 84 to fire a 76 and stand in 54^th heading into Tuesday.

Kali Quick shot a 20-over par 164 to land in a tie for 63^rd. Michelle Regan improved 13 strokes from her first to second round score to finish the day at 23-over par 167, good enough for 68^th. Morgan Moon was in 71^st after a 27-over par 171.

 “Tomorrow, the goal is to go out and play with more energy and with joy,” Knight said. “Be yourself, and go out and play. I think they are determined to go out tomorrow and shoot some good scores.”

Tuesday’s final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
