Misenhelter Shoots Under Par on Sunday

NORMAN, Okla. - Sophomore Gianna Misenhelter tallied a 1-under par 71 to lead the Kansas State women's golf team after the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the par 72, 6,327-yard Jimmie Austin Golf Club.
The Wildcats currently sit in a tie for 11th at 16-over par 304 and look to move up the leaderboard during Monday's second round.
"Gianna had a solid round," head coach Kristi Knight said. "It was an up and down day for the others and not the start we wanted, but it is where we put ourselves."
Misenhelter currently sits in a tie for ninth as she is three strokes behind first-place and one stroke out of a six-way tie for third. Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman and Kennesaw State's Ket Preamchuen are on top of the leaderboard at 4-under par 68.
Sunday's round was Misenhelter's fourth under-par round in just 10 total rounds this season. She also carded a score of 1-under par 71 during the first rounds of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational and the Johnie Imes Invitational, while the Overland Park, Kan., native ended the Johnie Imes with a 2-under par 70.
Paige Osterloo and Whitney Pyle both sit in a tie for 49th, scoring a 5-over par 77. Ami Storey is currently in a tie for 64th and sits two strokes behind Osterloo and Pyle, while Hannah Roos notched a 10-over par 82 in the first round.
"Each player had positives they can take into tomorrow," Knight said. "We are looking forward to round two for a chance to move up the leaderboard."
No. 35 Florida State is currently on top of the leaderboard and is four strokes ahead of No.11 Texas A&M.
Kansas State will tee off the second round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at 10:20 a.m., on Monday. Live scoring of the can be followed on www.golfstat.com, and results will be posted at the conclusion of play on www.kstatesports.com.
