Results Through Two Rounds
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Kansas State women’s golf team is in fifth and freshman Gianna Misenhelter fired a 1-over par 145 to sit in a tie for sixth after two rounds of the Johnie Imes Invitational at the Club at Old Hawthorne on Monday.
K-State found itself in sixth place after the conclusion of round one and responded with its best single-round score of the season in the second round with a 10-over par 298. The season-low was enough to move the Wildcats into fifth-place with a two-round total of 599 (+23).
K-State trails three teams that are ranked in the GolfStat.com top-50, including first-place Oklahoma State (No. 47), which recorded a two-round score of 3-over par 579.
“The ladies did a great job today,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “We were struggling toward the beginning of the final nine holes, but they stayed poised and finished strong.”
Misenhelter started strong, going 1-under par through her first 15 holes in the opening round but was 1-over over the next three holes to record a season-low 18-hole score of 72 (E). The freshman stayed consistent in the second round to score a 1-over par 73, totaling a season-low 36-hole score of 145. Misenhelter is five shots behind individual leader Kelly Shon of Princeton, who tallied a 4-under par 140 on the day.
Paige Osterloo is in a tie for 18th through two rounds with a score of 6-over par 150. She got as high as ninth on the leaderboard in the first round with a 1-over par 73.
Hanna Roos, who is competing as an individual this week, joins Osterloo in 18th as the sophomore set a new season low 36-hole score.
Whitney Pyle and Ami Storey were able to show improvement in their second rounds, shaving off a combined 11 strokes from round one. Pyle moved from a tie for 54th to a tie for 38th with a second round total of 74 (+2). Storey was in a tie for 62nd after an 8-over par 80 in the opening round, but she improved six strokes in the second round with a 2-over par 74 to sit in a tie for 45th.
Emily Houtz is in a tie for 66th through two rounds with a score of 15-over par 159.
K-State will look for its third top-three finish of the season as the final round begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Live scoring can be followed at www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com as soon as they are made available.
