Women's Golf Finishes Third at Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Whitney Pyle and Gianna Misenhelter registered career-best finishes and the Kansas State women’s golf team took third place after the final round of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday. Pyle saved her best performance of the invitational for the final round, carding a 2-over par 74 to wrap up the competition with a career-best 54-hole score of 11-over par 227. The sophomore concluded with a career-best sixth place finish and now has two top-10 finishes in her career. Misenhelter also had a career-best finish of 12th place after recording a three-round total of 13-over par 229. This is the second top-20 finish for the freshman in as many events. K-State mirrored its first round score of 18-over par 306 in the final round at the par 72, 6,279-yard Alvamar Golf Course. The Wildcats’ three-round score of 52-over par 916 helped them earn their second finish in the top three this season. K-State was bested by host Kansas, which tallied a score of 39-over par 903. The Wildcats’ second and third place finishes in the last two events marks the best start since the fall season in 2001 when Kristi Knight’s squad gathered a third and first place finish through two events. Kansas’ Grace Thiry won the individual competition with a 54-hole score of 3-over par 219. Ami Storey cracked the top-20, tying for 18th with a three-round score of 16-over par 232. Storey has now notched six career top-20 finishes, including two this season. Emily Houtz finished in a tie for 23rd and carded 5-over par 77 in the third round to total a 54-hole score of 17-over par 233. Paige Osterloo finished with back-to-back 79’s in the second and third rounds to finish with a three-round score of 22-over par 238, finishing in a tie for 35th. Hanna Roos and Kristen Dorsey competed as individuals this week. Roos joined Osterloo in 35th place with a score of 22-over par 238, while Dorsey tallied a 39-over par 255 through three rounds. K-State will continue action Oct. 4th and 5th at the Johnnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo., at the Club at Old Hawthorne.
