East Lansing, Mich. - The Kansas State women's golf team shot an opening-round 325 is tied for 14th after the first round of the NCAA Women's Division I Central Regional, hosted by Michigan State University, at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.

Teams had later tee times than expected due to heavy rain and lightning in the area. Teams did not begin teeing off until 10:30 a.m., over two hours behind schedule.

Individually for the Wildcats, junior Miranda Smith is tied for 22nd after carding a first-round 6-over-par 78. Sophomore Christine Boucher is tied for 29th at 79, and junior Elise Carpentier is tied for 48th with a round of 81. Senior Edie Murdoch and freshman Sarah Heffel posted scores of 87 to tie for 92nd place.

Kent State led the 21-team field for the day with a 16-over-par 304. Chasing Kent at two strokes back is Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State, which posted a 306. Baylor and Purdue are tied for third place at 309, followed by Michigan State, which is in fifth place by one stroke at 310.

Baylor's Melanie Hagewood led the individual race, firing a 2-under-par 70. Kent State's Martina Gillen is in second with an opening-round 71.
