K-State in Seventh at Rebel Intercollegiate
April 6, 2012
OXFORD, Miss.—The Kansas State women’s golf team sits in a tie for seventh after the first round of the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate on Friday at the par-72, 6,313-yard Ole Miss Golf Course.
The Wildcats carded an 18-over par 306 and look to move up the leaderboard on Saturday.
“Our scores may look mediocre, but I think the ladies hung tough today,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “This was our first competitive round on a challenging course. There were some tough day-one hole locations, but I am proud of the ladies’ effort. However, there is a lot of golf left, and we gained experience on this course. Tomorrow is another day, and we are not too many shots from the top four.”
Gianna Misenhelter led the Wildcats with a 2-over par 74 to sit in a tie for eighth, five strokes behind first-place Natalie Gleadall of Mississippi. Misenhelter looks to continue her solid play Saturday and Sunday to earn her fifth top-10 finish of the year. Kristen Dorsey, who is competing as an individual, sits one stroke behind Misenhelter.
Whitney Pyle was solid as she tallied a 4-over par 76 to sit in a tie for 33rd.
Mississippi and Baylor currently sit on top of the leaderboard at 4-over par 292.
