Wildcats Record Top-5 Finish at BYU Entrada Classic

March 18, 2014

K-State Athletics

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Kansas State junior Carly Ragains and senior Gianna Misenhelter both finished in the top-10 as the Wildcat women's golf team secured their highest finish of the spring season by placing fifth following the final round of the BYU Entrada Classic Tuesday. K-State concluded the tournament with an 89-over par 953 at the par-72, 6,015-yard Snow Canyon Country Club.

For Ragains, the fifth-place tie was her best finish of the 2013-14 campaign, and is the best finish by a Wildcat this spring season. On a difficult course with windy conditions, Ragains was able to minimize mistakes by only recording one double-bogey, a feat that only one other golfer achieved.

Misenhelter carded four birdies on the final day en route to a tie for seventh with a 16-over par 232. The Overland Park, Kan., product fired the low score for the Wildcats in the third round, securing her highest finish of the season and her second top-10 finish.

"It is good to move up the leaderboard in the final round," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I am proud of Carly and Gianna for getting top-10 finishes at such a challenging course."

Olivia Eliasson fired the seventh-best score of round three and moved up 19 spots to finish in a tie for 17th. The junior recorded her fourth top-20 finish of the season at 22-over par 238.

Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Wildcats was sophomore Scotland Preston, who carded a 13-over 85 en route to a tie for 71st with a three-round score of 43-over 259. Finishing seven spots back was freshman Madison Talley, who finished the tournament with a 49-over par 265.

Minnesota, which entered the final round in third place, shot the best round of the day by six shots en route to the tournament championship at 67-over par 939. The Gophers' Anna Laorr and Wisconsin's Alexis Nelson tied for the individual championship at 6-over par 222.

The Wildcats will be back in action, March 28-29, as they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational.
