MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team opened this weekend with a pair of team victories when they hosted the Kansas State Hunt Show at Fox Creek Stables.

The team claimed High Point Team honors at the first show of the day, and sophomore Heather Chatham captured the title of High Point Rider after winning Open Flat B and Open Over Fences A. In addition, three Kansas State riders tied for the title of Reserve High Point Rider. Those riders were sophomore Gentry Horigan, who placed second in Intermediate Flat A and first in Intermediate Fences, senior Allison Woodworth, who won Open Flat A and placed second in Open Over Fences A, and sophomore Stephanie Bell, who claimed first place in Novice Flat A and second place in Novice Fences B. The team claimed 12 total individual first place finishes at the show, and those victories proved key in securing High Point Team honors.

The Wildcats were equally as successful at the second show of the day, and the team once again captured High Point Team honors. Senior Dehlia Burdan claimed High Point Rider honors after winning Open Over Fences A and Open Flat B, while 9 other riders claimed first place finishes in their respective classes. The riders who placed first in their respective classes are as follows: Meghan Felts in Open Over Fences B, Kelsey Wright in Intermediate Fences, Stephanie Bell in Novice Fences B, Natalie Poholsky in Novice Flat A, Lianna Bodlack in Walk/Trot A, Mica Becker in Walk/Trot/Canter B, Tiffany Bowles in Intermediate Flat A, and Gentry Horigan in Intermediate Flat B.

"Anytime that we can come up with 21 first place finishes is a successful day," head coach Teresa Slough said. "I think the riders did a good job and they did what we have been practicing all week. It was a good day for them."

The team will look to build upon today’s success when they return to action Sunday morning for the final show of the weekend. The show is set to begin at 9 a.m.
