WACO, Texas – For the second time in three days, Kansas State equestrian rider Kelly Bovaird was named Horsemanship Rider of the Month, this time by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA). Bovaird becomes to the second K-State rider to earn NCEA honors this season. Cat Avolese was named the Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month for September.

“I am so proud of Kelly for earning the NCEA and Big 12 Rider of the Month honor for October,” said head coach Casie Maxwell. “She is extremely committed to this teams’ success, so it is so good to see her hard work paying off. She is off to a great start for her senior season and I know she has got even more to bring to the table.”

Bovaird was remarkable in the month of October. The senior from Tulsa, Okla., compiled a perfect 3-0 record in Horsemanship, while earning one Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honor. Bovaird was named Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Month earlier this week.

“I am so shocked and so excited,” said Bovaird. “It is definitely such a great surprise. I am so thankful to be a part of such an amazing and supportive team.”

South Carolina’s Katherine Schmidt (Equitation Over Fences), Samantha Smith (Equitation on the Flat) and Johnna Letchworth (Reining) were also named by the NCEA.

The Wildcats are in action on Saturday, when the team faces-off against No. 10 SMU and UT-Martin in Martin, Tenn. No. 7 K-State returns to Timbercreek Stables on Nov.22 to close-out the fall season against No.1 Georgia.
