MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team lost to the Baylor Bears Friday 12-8 at Fox Creek Stables, its second consecutive loss to Baylor this season. The Bears defeated K-State 8-7 on September 23 at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational.

The head-to-head English and Western Varsity match-up began with Equitation over Fences where the Cats defeated Baylor 3-2 and Whitney Snyder picked up the MVP by defeating Susie Foster 85-76.

The Cat’s next competed in Equitation On the Flat where Baylor won 4-1 convincingly. Two points down, K-State then competed in Western Horsemanship winning 3-2, where senior Sara Weller took home the MVP award.

In the final match-up Baylor defeated the Cats 4-1 in Reining to capture the win 12-8.

“We rode well over fences and in Horsemanship and didn’t ride well in Reining or on the flat,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “In Georgia we beat Baylor 4-1 in reining so we know we can perform well in that area.”

In the JV competition Baylor came out in the first show with a win defeating K-State 4-3 in JV Equitation Over Fences. In JV Equitation On the Flat the Wildcats defeated Baylor 4-3 and Kendall Marvin was the MVP.

Jana Lechtenberg led the way for the Cats in JV Horsemanship as she took MVP honors and K-State won 4-3. In the final show K-State and Baylor tied 1-1 in JV Reining and Freshman Dana Johnson was named MVP capturing the 12-11 win for the Wildcat JV squad.

“We are really proud of the girls that received MVP awards today they all really deserved them,” Slough said.

The Wildcats next competition will be this Sunday October 15th as they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma for a head-to-head show against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
